While you have to question his decision to go out drinking in public, you seriously have to consider his decision to stick around an altercation outside a bar (as a bystander, according to reports) when you know the police are coming.

Basketball IQ high. Common sense??? Zero to none.

That it does, but I've always been "coherent" enough to steer clear of trouble when I've been drinking, and I used to drink more than my share when I was at UofI.

Alcohol impairment is one thing, but c'mon. Cops come and tell you to leave and you don't? Zero common sense. Regardless of how much you've drank.

To me it sounds more like the "do you know who I am?" entitlement syndrome.

Quit sticking out the chest, Jamar and just go home.

That's exactly what it is. Anyone familiar with this kid knows what kind of attitude he has.

It amazes me that Weber and Illinois keep a kid like this around. They HAD TO know Jamar didn't change his habits. Hell, half of Central Illinois knew he was out in bars on a regular basis.

I am not defending Jamar....I just know that acohol affects judgement......You drank your fair share, I drank my fair share and I had alot of budsies that drank tons. Everybody gets affected differently. Jamar sounds like he may have an acohol problem on top of an ego problem on top of a stupid problem...Take away the acohol and his ego and studidity arent illegal.

I posted the same sentiment and was removed from the Urinal Star board and I agree with you 90%.

My thing is....does he really have an "alcohol problem" everyone points to this instead of the fact that he was given another chance after a DUI that almost resulted in the death of his "friend"......then fails to leave after the cops allegedly give him several opportunities to do so.

If the kid got busted at a party.......I would feel for him a little....but at a bar? Come on that is a "Do you know who I am?" move and the kid doesn't deserve to play anymore.

Hopefully a JUCO stint will help him get his priorities straight and he continues his career, but for a school with the rep that U of I has.....they would be making a big mistake by allowing him to return to the team.

As everyone knows.....when the cops say it is time to go.....it is time to go....right or wrong if you are drinking or not that is one battle you flat out will not win. Must have been hanging with some good friends too that would allow him to put up resistence to the po po.....knowing he is on probation and all.

My dad, family, and support system did a pretty good job. All 17-22 year old young men need to be grounded, and do stupid things. Of course a college kid is free to make their own decisions, but I knew what was too stupid and unacceptable.

This young man is not unintelligent.

He was out with teammates. You can't tell me his friends, family, and coaches didn't know. I understand that it is a lot to ask for other kids/friends to intervene, but was anyone out there telling him he isn't above everything?

I also have a feeling the only way anyone can be dismissed from the Illinois basketball team, is to actually be incarcerated. And even then, they may just call that a suspension depending on length of sentance Evil or Very Mad .

I wonder how long he'd have stayed if he was a failing junior who didn't have a game?? I'm stunned that someone who's had his experience and his terms of probation would frequent a bar. Even if he wasn't drinking - the perception that he gave/gives that he is - is startling.

Was he at the bar with teammates?? If so, I can't believe they'd allow him to go w/ them -- knowing the terms of his probation.

I don't know the family but I've had the impression his grandparents love the heck out of him?? This must be killing them to see him blow such a great opportunity.

From what I've heard, it's Gpa that keeps bailing him out. Gpa is doing him no favors at all.

I just can't believe he would be frequenting the bars in Champaign (and Peoria) when his probation basically states that he is not to be drinking. I know if my basketball career (and freedom) depended on that, you wouldn't catch me anywhere close to a bar. Now, this probably sounds bad, but there are PLENTY of ways to party without being at bars (and thus out of the "public eye"). But, as others have said, Jamar seemed to think he would get away with things because of who he is. It's unfortunate that he has now ruined his life and has also hurt his team...a team that was depending on him to be a big part of the upcoming season. Now, I guess it's possible the team was enabling him.... in that case, when do we start looking at Weber as part of the problem (hoping that doesn't open up another can of worms).

I take back what I said. I have just learned that Jamar does not have a problem, and the cop is just a "tattle tale". Shocked Mad Unbelievable!

Of course, we still have not heard anything out of Coach Weber and/or the University. Jamar is still a Fighting Illini.
