Jamar Smith/Illini Hoops

Post  MJG24 on 26th June 2008, 12:22

Never really got into the whole story and debate over him on here. Probably not a bad thing, and that is over. But I have an update on him:

My best friend and another coach work many basketball camps at Illinois. They both commented how well Jamar played when they watched him. They say his shooting in unbelievable. Weber has continued to make similar comments as well.

They also added that Jamar was no stranger to the after camp get togethers at the bars. And he was not shy about drinking - a lot. And that it was clear he was a regular. I have no idea the status or conditions of his punishment or probation, but I hope he is being smart.

Oh, and they also mentioned Alex Legion is a stud.

He just turned 21 a couple months ago, he must really be hitting those bars hard if he is a regular after only a handful of days after his 21st bday.

'Cause we all know college students (especially athletes) never drink in bars prior to age 21. In fact, I'd be shocked if it has ever happened in Champaign.

Seriously, saying he is a 'regular' may not be accurate. He definately was fimilair with the staff (could have just been friends) and "made himself at home" in more than a few situations.

I have been to parties over the years at the (insert sport here) house at Bradley. Anyone who thinks freshman D1 athletes don't drink and party hard is just out of touch.

There's also more to the Jamar story of what happened in Champaign concerning the accident. Sounds as if this young man needs help.

Of course. But a house party is one thing. Drinking in public after being convicted of an alcholol related felony (and I believe under court order not to drink) on a second chance, is quite another thing.

I would be surprised if Jamar Smith makes it to the start of the regular season with the Illini. For some reason I have a feeling he isn't getting his life straightened out.

I hope I'm wrong.

In a shocking development, Jamar has alegedly violated his probation by drinking, and the prosecutor is seeking to revoke his probation, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

When BW says that Jamar is making progress but he still has work to do (when speaking of his probation) you know thats a problem. Whats there to work on? You dont drink in public...period.

GBG dont feel like you cant air what you think you know here....Jamars a RW kid, but this is a pretty small forum.

I haven't heard much good about Jamar other than his ability to play basketball. From those that knew him in high school, to those familiar with him now. He thinks prety highly of himself.

Can't say I'm surprised to see this happen.

While you have to question his decision to go out drinking in public, you seriously have to consider his decision to stick around an altercation outside a bar (as a bystander, according to reports) when you know the police are coming.

Basketball IQ high. Common sense??? Zero to none.
