Richwoods Regional

Post  jim beam on 2nd May 2008, 07:37

Richwoods gets the # 2 seed in the Regional with the best record 14-9 and the only team to beat every other team in the Regional at least once. Stoney strikes again.

It's a good thing they actually play baseball games to decide the Regional champion unlike in college football where it's a computer and a few sportswriters who were always picked last as kids.

Galseburg at 10-11. Coach Stonback of Woodruff didnt want to face Hunter first game so he voted for Galesburg even though RW record is 14-9 and they have beaten every team in the Regional at least once. So RW voted for Gburg (cant vote for self) so Gburg got 2 votes and PND didnt show. Classy move by Stoney, did what was best for him (he thinks) rather than vote for the team that deserves the spot.

Wow...I watched both teams and without a doubt Richwoods should have gotten the 1 seed. Its too bad that it happend that way...but isn't this his last year at Woodruff?

I dont know about that........It really doesnt matter, Richwoods would have played PND first game now they play Woodruff first game so there is little or no effect that way.. One of those teams is not much better or worse than the other. As we have seen all season there is alot of parity in the area. But its a matter of principle and RW should have gotten the one seed.....because they deserved it by their performance against common opponents and their overall record, I hate it when coaches do stuff like this.

I remember in 2002 every team gave EP the 2 seed in the sectional except for Rashid at ND who gave EP the 8 seed. EP ended up playing Notre Dame in the Regional Championship and beat them thus making the win that much sweeter. Its unfortunate that some coaches seed like that.

it was a little harder when you had 16-19 teams to seed, many that you never saw, no excuse if you have 4-5 teams and they are all familiar.

sad part is that galesburg probably should be the 3 seed...

Not really salz - I was just using it as an opportunity to take a swipe at the BCS' way of deciding who gets into the mythical national championship game. Wojciechowski wrote a good article about the BCS for anyone who cares

I don't intend to take this thread off topic.

The problem is that galesburg with hunter is probably the best team..however without him the are probably the worst team. I do not know how you vote a 10-11 team that lost to another team with a better record no. 1.! It makes a mockery of the process.
The big probelm is will hunter even be able to pitch? galesburg is 6-0 in games with hunter, they are 4-11 in games without him starting...and 2 of those are to are really, really bad quincy team.

For once in my life I will be cheering for RHS to smack Woody down for that move.

What a loser......you'll never get any better pulling moves like that.

I remember umping a Manual/Woodruff summer league game (utterly meaningless) and Stonebock was calling double steals and hit and runs up 9-0 in the 3rd and 4th inning. Schief was none too thrilled! I never had an issue with Stoney when I umpired, but he came off as a real dick.
