I think I heard he was hoping to bump it to the 14-15 level on his next try

Yes, and we will soon hear how a kid who has a hard time scoring in the teens on his ACT, has earned straight A's at his 'college prep' school.

As you probably know, the NCAA has a sliding eligibility scale. I'm curious to know what DJ's cumulative GPA needs to be given his ACT score(s). The ironic thing is, I don't think I completely understand the scale!!

Eligibility Scale
In basic terms, you have to be almost as smart as a fence post compete in D1 athletics. Or have a college line you up with a "prep" school to help your high school GPA to get around those tests that actually measure intelligence and what you learn in school.

Another Illinois recruit, Crandall Head, has also transfered high schools in Chicago.

Re: D.J. Richardson
it may help in dj's case but many times they will go to a prep school for a 5th year then the A's replace worse grades, thus lowering the ACT score neccessary to be eligible.
Higher grades in a 4th year will up the average but to replace grades he would have to extra english, math and science classes in addition to the regular senior year classes.
your core GPA only deals with the core classes. no electives, no PE, no music etc..
the idea is to limit the effect of test taking by balancing it with your class scores. some people do not test well, and the tests are racially, sexually and regionally biased also.
if everything grade-wise is done on the up and up, it works fine. I we all have doubts about whther that's the case.

I just don't understand how anyone can have a problem with the ACT. If you can't pass the ACT then you shouldn't pass high school!

Re: D.J. Richardson
first there is no passing grade.
second, it is a reading test and people who do not read well- do not test well on it...like dyslexic people.
third, not everyone tests well, there are very smart people who do not do well on standardized tests.
last, it is not a test of high school knowledge or IQ. It is simply a predictor of how someone might do in college. it does not take into effect work ethic or drive. It basically judges how well you read/understand college language written tests.
what seems easy and elementary to some because of a familiarity to the language, is difficult and misleading to others.
