I would assume so, since the Illini can't keep anyone committed anymore.
Seriously, don't know. He seems to be helping the Illini staff recruit, so I wouldn't think so. Maybe problems here in town that he wants to get away from? That's just a guess.
Interesting to say the least.

Re: D.J. Richardson
There is definately something going on here. The article says his play "sent his recruiting stock skyrocketing nationally." He shouldn't have a recruiting stock.
This is not good (for Illinois). I hope this kid handles things differently than kids have in the past.

You're right he shouldn't, but his ranking will continue to improve with better play. Even though he's verballed, people will continue to contact him.

Re: D.J. Richardson
Looks like the Illini staff is somewhat behind this (according to this article).....

I guess I don't understand how going to a new place away from friends, in what sounds like a palace and distraction for young men, and playing a national basketball schedule, will help him with his grades (ACT).

This isnt strange to me at all, he and his family have talked about him playing somewhere else since he was a freshman. I thought it would happen earlier than his senior year but I guess not...

Wow, what kid would turn that down? I would think sending the kid to Sylvan or some ACT prep class would be a bit cheaper. Is he going to be on scholarship at Findley???
Here's the latest RCSI, which I think is from pre-summer. Richardson, Griffey and Paul all listed. No Bertrand.

Looks like he is still in with the Illini, and is going to have a pretty cool senior year. Hope this all raises his ACT as planned.

What exactly can the NCAA do about this, how can they tell parents(and the kid) where or wherenot to attend high school or college prepatory school to help better their future. I'm sure PCHS has excellant academics but you cannot tell me he won't get better this academy.
Also all that money and they only have cable tv at Findlay, that might be a deal breaker.

“I might sign after the season,” Richardson said today, referring to the spring signing period that begins in April. “(I) don’t want to rush anything. I know that (Illinois) is my school and I’m going to go there. I don’t want to rush anything.”
Here is the answer on if the kid is still "solid" with Illinois.

Seems a bit wishy-washy to me. IMO, he's hoping for a better deal.MJG24 wrote:http://www.illinihq.com/news/mens_basketball/2008/08/11/hoops_recruit_might_wait_to_sign_with_illinois

Personally, I wish he had transfered to Washington to play with Dyricus, Ben & Co.

I've learned a little more about this situation. The decision was 'urged and encouraged' by Illinois. D.J. will be handed grades so his pathetic ACT score will hopefully qualify him.
Why even require any of these kids to be students? Only a handful of colleges in the country care if a kid gets an education.

Wow!! If that's how Weber is running the program, how disappointing. It's amazing how much money the NCAA has but it can't figure out how to catch, punish and stop this kind of stuff.

Anyone know (or have heard) what DJ's current ACT score and GPA is?
