metamora v Pontiac / richwoods v Mendota
I thought I would lump these two games together, because most of us will want to post on hem and didn't feel like jumping between 2 threads. Now, what happened? Did we unde estimate the opponents, play alot of subs, turnover the ball or what. This is not how you want to roll into the playoffs. Also wanted to post over here because it will probably get dropped on the other board real quick.

I think this is EXACTLY how Metamora needs to go into the playoffs, especially if they drop to 4A. They needed to get their butt challenged by a nobody 4A school with a chip on its shoulder, otherwise they would have entered the tournament with the "we've been in the 5A title game the last two years, we'll ROLL 4A" attitude.

I just hope they figure it out by 2010.

OK, I'll make this as delicate as possoible....opening possession RW qb Mike Davis is on one of his shake and bake runs breaking tackles and gains about 40 yrs but comes up limping badly...out for the game. You never know but Im thinking he would have had his way with the Mendota defense.
SR Nate Taylor who hasnt taken a meaningful snap since freshman year, did what he had to do for the most part. He missed his receiver a few times by just enough for no catches....just didnt quite have the timing of the routes..pretty close a couple times. My kid had about a 30 yrd sure reception but was interfered with BADLY..right in front of the official..no call. Havent heard a RW crowd boo like that for a long time. I mean the kid was literally on his back.....
After that it was all on the ground. RW is a different team without Davis. So to come out with a win was huge IMO. Mendota is a pretty solid team.

I thought this game would be close. This may have been a breakthrough game for the Knights. In seven of their games they weren't even tested. Nice to see everyone step up in Davis' abscense. The D seems to be playing very well. If the Knights want to get past the second round they will need to remain balanced on O. That being said, it was nice to see Hicks get 30 carries. I thought his lack of carries hurt the Knights against QND. Hicks will need about 22-23 carries a game to get the Knights deep in to the playoffs. I still think a well coached swarming D can completely shut down Davis.
On to Metamora. Despite giving up 42 points, I'm sure Pat Ryan went to sleep a very happy man. Much like the Knights The Redbirds really aren't battle tested early. The Redbirds came out on top of a "gut check game". All you need to do in the playoffs is win. The Redbirds go into the playoffs knowing they can win a close one on the road.
